Fred Zajonczloski misses father's burial after airline charges $675 to change flights

We got an incredible response to the story we first told you last night about the local family, the death of their father and the change fee from an airline. This story was viewed more than 100,000 times on our website and several people have offered their own money to help.

We received several emails from people across the country wanting to help. They're offering to buy a plane ticket so one of the brothers in this family can be back for his father's burial tomorrow.

Long time county employee Walt Zajonczkowski died last week at 85. He was suffering from cancer. His was surrounded by his children including Fred who lives in Texas. When Mr. Zajonczkowski's burial was set for Wednesday, Fred tried to change his Saturday departure flight so he could be here.

After more than a hour long phone call with the airline's customer service, the family says the airline told them it would cost $675 dollars to change the two tickets on the flight.

The family says Fred and they as a group couldn't afford that -- so Fred and his fiance had to go home.

His brothers and sisters got together today to thank the community for the out-pouring of help. Read More
