Parenting Certification

Should parents be required to take child development classes before having children?

Licensed Day Care Workers
California licensed day care workers are required to have (or be acquiring) 12 units of classes in early childhood education before they are allowed to work with children.

Infants and Toddlers
For a college certificate to work with infants and toddlers 4 core classes and 3 elective classes (24 units) are required.

School age Children
For a college certificate to work with school age children 4 core classes and 3 elective classes (25 units) are required.

A parent should be required to take at least 10 classes in order to raise their child effectively through to adulthood.
